It should be completely obvious that my 3 bid is simply an attempt to stop them playing 2 - either forcing them up or (hopefully) taking a 100 penalty.

I PASSED AS DEALER, and ALSO declined to overcall 1NT. So what on earth does the bot imagine I have to justify raising to 4 on that heap of rubbish?

You promised a 6 card or longer suit and it bid to the length of the supposed fit(6+4=10).
Coming in when you did, you don't yet know if West just has his points or all your partner's ones too and may be going to bid on anyway?
As all you know is that he has 5 or more spades.
You pay your money and take your chances and here you aren't even risking it to get the lead that you want, as against a likely spade or NT contract, you will be on lead anyway.

Yes it's a calculated risk and I've misled my partner. But 4 is a genuinely pointless bid - I would understand if it bid it over 3.

I'd call that a result undoubled -200 versus the 420 Heart game available

Possibly playing garbage Stayman
1N-2-2-3-4 with East/West not bidding

Even opposite an unpassed hand is rediculous, 9 loser hand which adjusts to a 10-loser hand
no ruffing potential
has 1 card that might take a trick

is hanging partner for bidding
Sarcasm is a state of mind
