Do you want to, can you, stay out of 6?

Pretty easy to stay out of 6, may end up in five hearts.

Nope, you're 7 HCP above the minimum agreement, thanks to the Usual Suspects over on That Other Site.

Originally, they said that, yes; but the C&CC got slippery-sloped (reasonably - your example *is* much better than almost all 8-counts that don't have trump suits to the AK) to the point where they realized this was a battle they were always going to lose. So now there is *no* strength requirement on the Open/+ convention charts for (Quasi-)Natural 1-suit bids *in third and fourth seats*. Go ahead, look for it. In fact, you could even agree that 1 in third seat is 0-5 or 11-15 (but not 6-10) - the rule on "pass stronger than opening" also only applies to first and second seat (didn't notice that one before).

And again...neither Alertable nor Pre-Alertable. It's on the card, right? :-)

Which card is that? :-)

This hand was played 6x in 4 and once , by the "top pair" in 6. North opened 1
Making 6 after lead, heart hook and favourable position of the AQ

We have the very light 3rd seat box checked. That doesn't disclose though, because intermediates think people checking that box occasionally open 9 counts and experts think people checking that box occasionally open 0 counts, and we're somewhere in between.

Position of club AQ irrelevant as long as S plays it, 3 clubs go on the diamonds and S's second one gets ruffed. Only interesting question is whether on a diamond lead if you lead Q and W ducks without a quiver, you should overtake and take the spade finesse.

Oh, my forum play analysis sucks, I think I'm looking at it from North's perspective. (Joking)

"Only interesting question is whether on a diamond lead if you lead Q and W ducks without a quiver, you should overtake and take the spade finesse."

I was wondering just this. The common "rule" I hear is if W doesn't play the K, he doesn't have it, but perhaps not on this layout. It's a pure guess unless there is some table feel, the slightest hitch.
