IMPs, none vul, club standard opps

2H = 10+ (not playing 2/1)

As North would you pass 3NT or pull it to 4S (or even 4D)?

How do you play 4S on the lead of the C9 (middle from singletons, top of doubletons, or top of nothing), J, Q?

Thanks,

ahydra

I wouldn't have pulled 3n. I keep telling people to beware the misfits. Very often a hand you evaluated as a game will only make 8 tricks. The opponents are going to have to lead something in 3n, and whatever it is will set up either declarer's hand, or dummy's.

There's no reason to think that partner is going to misevaluate our chances in 3NT given my bidding thus far, so I would just pass 3NT. South could easily have fitting diamond cards and have 9 easy tricks.

I might be old school here, and yes, nearly all players would now open 1 on the South hand, but with 5/5 in the black suits and a moderate hand I would be opening 1 here. And if that happens, partner would be happier leaving 3NT in. The quite decent suit gets 'lost in the mix' on the bidding given.

I would leave 3NT in. Our bidding would go the same up to that point - even with 2/1 GF South would need something extra to rebid 3C rather than 2S.

I haven't had an espresso yet and am struggling with 'middle from singletons'.

Assuming a C honor from E, win with A, cash AK of H pitching a D, ruff a H and play towards DK. I think I'm home when the A is with W even if he returns a trump.
If he doesn't play the A I finesse the Q and when E returns a trump I finesse the K.
