AK of diamonds led, what next?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Now ruff and run the spade 9.
Are you not worried about losing to a singleton honour? Perhaps we should cash a top one first...

I can't, I ruffed with the 9.

But the play is not spade K to prevent a ruff in club with a single trump (against 4-1) ?

This hand didn't get much attention.
At the table, I would ruff the diamond, and lead a trump to my hand. I hook the heart.
I assume it wins, If so, then I cash the other top spade and play on clubs. I can't pick up 0-4, and I can't imagine they are 4-0, so this wins anytime the heart hook is onside, clubs aren't breaking terribly, and I don't care how spades behave.
If the heart hook loses, then I think I need 3-2 spades, because if East has a stiff spade, he can work out that it is best defence to give me a ruff-sluff. I cannot ruff in dummy without stiffing my A and I cannot ruff in hand without shortening my trump. If I did that, and then played a spade up, LHO splits with QJx and later ruffs a club, draws trump and cashes at least one diamond.
It doesn't help if LHO had Hxxx in spades on this line either.

Clubs were actually 4-0 at the table. I played it as MikeH except I kind of assumed the heart was onside (which it wasn't), which of course it needn't. I played a spade to the K and the A, LHO discarded. LHO had 1444 and RHO 4360. In the end I ran out of trumps somehow and went 2 down. Not great. Still, it doesn't make the top 3 worst results of this tournament (which was 2 weeks long). Some mistakes I made I didn't post in the beginner section as it would be received by wtp's.
