Would help to know what 4N means. Minors I'm assuming?

Edited. A spade lead is not unreasonable. A decision has to be made. What are the odds that partner has the A and can give me a ruff or, alternatively, the A and can give me a ruff as opposed to the odds that we can cash or set up a spade trick which will cash before partner's hypothetical trump trick is dislooged.

I can't really decide between a club and a spade.

I'd lead a club, as the easiest way to beat the contract.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

. A spade lead is too much of a parlay - it says either partner has the spade ace and another trick, or that there is a losing 2nd round spade and no ability to pitch it on hearts. I don't see that as particularly likely - not only does our length make it more likely that North has spade shortage, but South would be far less likely to bid 6 off 2 quicks in a major, I think - at least, it would give me pause.

a club has the benefit of having a clear path to defeating the contract, with the risk of maybe killing partner's 3rd round club trick. Oh well.

IMO = 10, = 9, = 8, = 2. (Upgraded lead, in the light of persuasive arguments by Gnasher, CSGibson, and Mr Ace - although I fear that it's likely to clear up the suit for declarer)

4NT minors. Hmmm, that's unlikely to be done without 6-6 distribution, I would think, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Anyway, a club looks like the best chance for two tricks. Trying to grab a major suit trick looks like a mugs game.

I am with those who leads

But hard to hit the right lead when the hand is posted in BBF, especially in "interesting hands" Leading your stiff vs a suit slam ? Naaa it would not make its way to here if that was the case. :P More likely we are cashing 2 fast spade tricks.(which is possible if you hit the A with your pd, 4NT opener has 2 spades and 6 bidder was gambling/hoping for non spade lead or expecting hispd to have it, while club lead needs pd to hold any minor ace for success.

Wrong post for your logic, here I led a spade and let it make when partner had A and some useless honors in the majors (KQ I think). Dummy had K10xxxx AK10xxx.

But had you posted this logic on the pitch or finesse hand you would had triumph :), pitch goes down there.

Well.....i knew one of these days someone will post a problem where the most likely winning action is actually the winning action :P in "interesting hands" section. So that should be it :) I was wrong in my previous assumption, i owe you a beer or 2 when we meet ;)
