south was mike lawrence. mike went into a long huddle after 4d. then a kibber typed in 7d that went to the table chat.
shortly afterward kib chat was suspended (rightly so). now i know this kibber did not intend to send chat
to the table but why is that available anyhow. im sure the kibber will be suspended for a while (and
she did not say anything else so obviously embarrassed)).

on the bidding 4n was 0314 my question is about the 6c bid. some thought this was asking about the q of clubs and
guaranteed all aces. could this bid be misinterpreted? north eventually bid 6h (showing heart k maybe) and mike bid 7d.
could 6c be taken as a suit?

1. It is nice that kibs can speak to the table- sometimes you have some friends around and want to chat while playing. It is very easy to dispend kibs chat, so everybody can use this function whenever it seems approbiate.
2. The non intended table chat was surely no major crime which should be dealt with a suspension.

3. 6 ♣ aks for third round control in clubs, so xx or Qxx or better. And no, Mike did surely not search for another suit at the 6. level. I do not know their system. Maybe even 3 ♠ already showed the fit, maybe 4 ♦ or 4 Nt did.

There are different ways of playing SSAs but the (arguably) most popular method is:
bid trump suit = no third round control
1st step = doubleton
2nd step = queen
3rd step = king
7 of trump suit = king and queen
That would not fit the 6♥ response though so whether they condense the first two steps or just answer positively with a further side feature is anyone's guess. I wonder why the kibber thought 7♦ was right with 13 off the top. It would also be interesting to hear why ML chose 7♦ rather than 7NT - presumably it was not MPs!

At one time ( June, 2006 ) Pitbulls showed :

bid trump suit = no third round control
1st step = 3rd Rnd Ctrl ( Q x x or doubleton )
2nd step = K x x
3rd step = K x
4th step = both king and queen

So, 6H reply = 1st ( non-trump ) step

Nothing unusual here. I kibbed Sathya and Chris Monsour and they got to 7N in three bids: 1♦ -(2♠) - 6N - (p) -7N.

If we want on-line Bridge to ever be treated the same as F2F competition, kibitzer interaction with an active player and kibizer chat which can be seen by an active player must be eliminated from the table options.

It is probably not possible to eliminate the use of messaging which does not involve the site itself, however; so, perhaps it is all futile.

Not everyone is playing on BBO as a competition, sometimes it's more like social bridge. We have options to cater to both styles.

Sure, but it is surprising that a person can chat with a player while seeing the player's cards. I doubt that is allowed on most sites.

Why is that a problem? In social bridge that should be allowed. The kib can compliment any player with the play on the previous board, can ask South how his aunt is doing, while enjoying watching the game.

If this is what the players want, then that is what the players get. Should that be made impossible just because a kib once chatted "7D" to the table by mistake?

If that kind of reasoning would hold, not only guns would have been banned long time ago. Cars, shoe laces and garden fences would have been banned too.
