I'm not sure this was the right sequence. In any case South showed 5-5 in the round suits while North pushed up to the 5 level afterwards. Only ten tricks were available in hearts. Is there anyone to blame?

I don't understand North's 4NT bid. Surely they bid 3♥ to agree trumps (forcing) with slam interest after these shenanigans?

I wouldn't bid 4H over 3H holding 3 keycards. 100% North.

Yes, North had a nice prepared auction, showing slam interest and too strong to splinter. Then, he said: "Did you miss my previous bidding?" without observing his partner's bidding.

Totally Nths fault. He has a singleton in Cs and KQxxx opposite a stiff or doubleton. I think Nth needs lessons in hand evaluation.

Exactly, this is how you're supposed to look at these "should I move when partner doesn't cuebid in a forcing auction with a whole level of room" situations. First, you make sure you have enough keycards. Secondly, you asssume that partner will always have cuebid with 2+Q. If you are off too many keycards at that point, pass and do not think further. If you could have enough keycards, continue thinking normally. Even good players make this error very often when they have a lot of HCP, it is surprising.

The way i teach these problems to some "B" players is I tell them that at partscore and game level Milton Work point worked pretty well, but at slam level for trumps contracts Aces values go up and the values of queens/jacks go down. To the point that Ace are worth about 3 Queens and that any hands with 3 aces isnt minimum anymore.

The 1H -1S sequence is always tuff since you can't immediately show a GF as in a 2/1 response ( unless you can use some "Brown Sticker" convention ) .

Using my system for 1H openers, I would "hide" the 5 card ♠ suit when holding 3 card ♥ support:
1H - 2D! ( GF )
2H* - 2S**
2NT*** - 3H ( 3 card support )
4H - pass ( knowing Opener has a minimum makes this pass easier )
*2H = any minimum
**2S = asks for 4 cards ♠
***2NT = no 4 cards ♠

North in entirety. They bid their hand, South gave the answer, then they decided to bid the hand again. This usually leads to trouble. My auction:-
1♥ = 10-17, 5+ hearts, unbal
... - 1♠ = INV+ relay
1NT = min, 0-3 spades
... - 2♣ = GF relay
2♦ = 4+ clubs
... - 2♥ = relay
2♠ = 5+ clubs
... - 2NT = relay
3♣ = 5 hearts, 5 clubs, 0-1 spades
... - 3♦ = relay
3NT = 1525, 3 controls
... - 4♥
Admittedly, this makes the defence very easy.

North has GF and made a slam try with 3h, south has failed to give even a courtesy cue which should wave the warning flag, they almost certainly don't have the A♠ and given the 5-5 shape they rate to be 5521 as with a void they might like their hand more and cue!
I think the bidding is fine up to 4♥ North just carried away a little with 16HCP a fit and a singleton.

I don't think I'd cue-bid over 3♠ with x AKxxx xx Axxxx, but slam is only mediocre opposite that.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
