Too scared: I pass. If partner had a singleton spade, he might have bid already, or he may even bid now when 3♠ comes around to him. Our heart fit is at best 4-4, and it may not be breaking (or clubs may not break, which is almost as bad). I don't fancy the four-level opposite a 2443 9-count.

This is not as scary as first glance seems.
Partner may indeed have 4-5xH +0-2xS
fearing to get into an auction against their spades if they own this hand.
Pushing into 4H may induce 4S -
just a little less likely to suffer a bonanza double.
I double and partner leans to 4C leaving both 4D,4S for them.
The game upside is good - the downside is bad.
The 3S preempt intended to steal this hand.

Yeah count me in for a pass too. I'd want a better heart suit before I switch to a double.

I don't know if I would. Partner didn't act over 1♦ but it could be 'cause he has 4 'forever'. I lean more towards double.

I overcall aggressively when I have a good 4 card major, which is another reason pushing me to pass if I was playing with myself. Opposite someone else I'd probably still pass but it is very close.

At the table RHO only bid 1S (they were a new partnership so probably unclear whether they played splinters or preemptive there) with JTxxxxx x xx Qxx or something. I was able to double and get to 4H (partner had 5 diamonds and 4 hearts and a pretty good hand). Was just wondering after if I would have doubled 3S, I think I would pass but you never know, somehow I always talk myself into bidding!
