The recession is over! I got two letters in the mail beginning "You have been pre-approved...", although they do hedge their bets a little. One of them more or less offers me a world card, but says that they reserve the right to only give me a platinum card if a more detailed review shows that I'm a scumbag. The other is for a black card, which sounds a little ominous, but the literature says it's a really great thing. These card offers are at least as accurate at predicting the end of recessions as groundhogs are in predicting the end of winter so I say that warm economic weather is on its way.
You heard it here first.

And the local supermarket gave me seventy cents a gallon off when I filled my tank! Happy days are here again! Spend! Spend!

Agree! I saw at the supermarket parking several dudes filling their cars with expensive sorts of beer. No doubt, it is a sign >>>> people are more optimistic :)

Only in their dreams. I have thrown the offer away but no doubt this cc knock-off offer i got was supposed to appeal to my thrill at being offered such a prestigious card. Since I had never heard of the thing before your message, the scheme sort of fell flat!

But I will be sure to work it into my conversation at the next party I go to. "Oh yes, speaking of interesting colors, I have been offered a black card."

Thanks
Ken

haha that's pretty awesome

edit: I thought "black card, which sounds a little ominous, but the literature says it's a really great thing" might have been a really clever thinly-veiled brag, and I was happy that I understood.

edit2: and yes, the black card is made of titanium. while I can't brag that credit card companies find me very interesting, I have at least seen the black card in action. the lady at the checkout line at the grocery store was completely puzzled.

Got pomegranate molasses?

This is only one of the many potent flavor boosters that can be appropriated from relatively unfamiliar cuisines. Over the next few months, we’ll check out a number of them, exploring how they are used traditionally and how they can be slipped into your daily cooking. The more you use them, the more uses you’ll find for them.

In other words, we’re going to exercise a little benign culinary imperialism, appropriating ingredients and adding them to our larder. No one gets hurt, and dinner becomes more interesting.
