on an unrelated note has anyone heard of Josh Tudela from LA Galaxy? He just signed for Steaua Bucharest, Romania's most famous team.

Kevin Martin, Randy Ferbey, Glenn Howard et al.

The real problem is that the sport SOUNDS so effeminate.

Munich will win- I do not like them but I would bet on them. Despite the fact that Roberry is still missing- Hoffenheim is not as hot as they had been when they appeared in the Bundesliga.

But I still hope that someone else can win the Budesliga this year.
Maybe Leverkusen? Would be nice, I am a member of their Bridge department.
Or even better: The Dino HSV- we really would like to hold a title after more then 20 years.

I still wait for a translation for "Besenkammer" Beckerchamber maybe? :)
Kind Regards

Roland

You are probably right, but I dont bet on Munich home victories, the odds are mostly about 1:1,3 so the risk/gain ratio is too high.... Bayern tied already 4 of their 9 home matches.

Beckerchamber sounds like the cell where you lock up Boris Becker when he is not playing to protect everyone.

hey after not following the Bundesliga too closely I saw that they have lots of international players Gomez Podolski and a few other names I never heard about. Then I realized most of them are in the Nationalelf! haha

You forgot Odonkor :)

lol, seeing Podolski and Klose in the german team has to make polish fans a bit angry, specially when they play against.

Podolski and Klose were born in Poland, at some point of their career they decided to play for the german national team. No doubt it increased their market value and attractiveness for the mega sponsors. These things rule the football business.

Boateng
Trochowski
Marin
Özel
Podolski
Gómez
Tasci
Khedira
Klose
Cacau

that's 10 names out of 35 players I found on the page of the Germany national team. I thought it was way worse. :) well in a way it's not a question of better or worse but I think it's still politically correct to say that it's a little unusual?

Sometimes we are quite angry when they play for us and would prefer if they had choosen a different way.

But these guys had lived for a very long time in Germany, so they are German. It was quite funny when Oliver Neuville entered the scene and talked fluent in French, Italian or any other given language- but nearly nothing in German.
Okay, quite often I prefer Soccer players not to talk at all, but that is another theme.

So lets hijack:

Don't you hate the aftergame interviews like:

So you missed the penalty in the 91. minute and your team lost 1:2. How do you feal?

Or: Your coach send you off after 25 Minutes. What do you think?

What about: Today you scored all three goals for your 3-2 victory against your arch enemy to win the world championships. Is this the best moment in your career?
Kind Regards

Roland

The best part about these questions is that the interviewer does not expect a one word answer!
"Q: Is this the best moment in your career? Answer: Yes!" And then interviewer looks longingly at player (hoping he will continue), who eventually realises what's going on, stutters and then adds a few more words of gibberish.

Well it is a little different then it looks like. Most of them (all but Cacau) lifed for all their life or at least for some twenty years in Germany.

Of course most of them had the opportunity to play for the homeland of one of their parents but they choose the country they live in.

I have much more problems with say Ice-Hockey players from North America who play in Germany/Italy/Switzerland/whatever and detect their German/Italina/Helvetian Grandma to play for that country despite the fact that they do not life there nor speak the language.

Okay you may argue that Podolski isn't good in German too, but I guess his Polish is even worse.

BTW our Bridge team improved after Smirnov joined Pikarek (Replacing Gotard) to join Elinescu and Wladow .(Russian,Polish,Polsih,Romanian,Bulgarian roots- in this order...)

To put it another way: Obviously many people from quite different countries had the wish to life and work here. A lot of them get integrated.
Kind Regards

Roland

hehe, spannish bridge team has 2 polish players since forever, the best of them always qualifies, althou somtimes he plays with a sponsor rather than his friend, the sponsor is french BTW.

A couple of portuguese have also played for Spain in the recent, years. Going to the juniors, an Argentinian guy and a Bulgarian have been 2 of my many partners when I was in the junior team.

But on bridge they don't even need the nationality :P.

oh, and hope winstomn doesn't kill me for this, but back to the soccer topic, Gomez's mother is fully german, he was born and raised in germany. His grand parents from a little town in the south of Spain saw hm lose the eurocup final, they probably had some cross-feelings about it :)

As long as we are talking football, how about that Cardinal's game!

we don't have soccer thread that I know of, the reason is probably because our teams are wide spread in different local leagues (to each country), and never meet each other, so not much to talk about. I couldn't tell a single name of a name from Csaba's team, and I doubt he knows more than 1 of mine. Similar with the germans, I have no clue on who is doing a good season there.
