It's great that GIB claims now. That's a big improvement. Curiously, one situation in which GIB (or GIBBO) seems reluctant to claim is when trumps are drawn and it has nothing but trumps left. In that situation, it leads out its trumps one by one. There may be exceptions, but that's what I usually see it do. I would think this would be the most obvious situation in which to claim.

It does seem an obvious situation in which to claim :)

I can't comment on other situations, as GIB(BO) never claims when I rent it as partner. BBO once told me that they were worried it might upset human opponents, which I fail to understand as every other player in the tournament can and does claim when appropriate.

yes, i am aware of this situation.
it happens when the robot has no choice of plays (e.g only trumps left, or following suit with a singleton, etc.)
in this case, no analysis runs at all (because there is no choice of plays), and therefore the analysis whether we should claim or not isn't run either.

i agree that it should claim in these cases.

I belief this comment, some people WILL get angry when claims happen, they feel they need to see every card played. It happens IRL too.
Others are not happy if bots/humans don't claim as soon as possible.

There is an easy fix for this, make the claims of bots optional by introducing a setting. Set it to "possible" by default. If at a table one or more players has set it to not possible the bots won't claim, about two man days of work for the programmers.

I find the idea original and amusing, but why stop at "I disallow claims by robot" and/or "I disallow claims by humans" ?
Create a setting "Opponents' Claims" with choices "welcomed", "only when obvious", "disallowed".

If BBO is improving the claims process, how about permitting defenders in Daylongs to claim tricks, instead of just concede?
