sound only for start of game... don't like play sounds; would like an audible alert at game start

I find the sounds during card play annoying and not useful. I would like to turn them off, but still have an alert when the game starts. Also, how about push notifications via the browser API?

Further, if the page-lifecycle API were used, it could be enabled only when the user was away from the browser tab. I have often been distracted with another task after signing up for a robot tourney, to find that when I come back I've missed the whole thing or have not enough time to finish.

On a related note, a tourney could start in your browser without showing the user xer cards until xe clicked a button to start. A second option on the button would be to drop out without it affecting TCR. (The purpose of not showing the cards would be to prevent nefarious folks from taking a peek at cards using a second account.) This would be a useful option for those times you come back to the tab to start playing and realise there is not enough time left to finish.

BTW, I'd be happy to contribute front-end improvements this winter if the source weren't minified and unreadable. For instance, the mail count sticks at 1 even once you've read your mail -- unless you click between tabs -- after the last update. Would seem an easy fix....

They can be turned off in settings Account>Settings>Sound effects

Thankfully - for many years this was not an option - each individual sound can be selected, as well as "no sounds".

Immediately, on every computer, on every account (and I have/have used 4) "play card" swish is *immediately* turned off as soon as one card reminds me I haven't; and "next board" shuffle sound usually also. I keep the rest, they're helpful.

Tweak as desired, and play with the tweaks as you play.

Play on here is so slow I tend to do things in between tricks and boards. I need the next board sound, as well as the your turn sound in order to be drawn back to the game at hand.

What am I missing? I see only Account > Settings > General: Sound Effects On, with an on/off toggle slider.

Both in my browser client on a laptop and in the iOS app.

Scroll down further - after General, Playing, Kibitzing, History, Chat, Notifications is a Sound section.

After Notifications, all I see is Interface Language and then Danger Zone/Delete Account.

I will try to insert a screenshot...

Okay, figured it out. The sound settings disappear when you have "Sound Effects On" toggled to off. They do not reappear when you turn sound back on, at least in my browser client. I had to turn sound on, log out, and log back in -- only then did the fine-grained sound settings reappear.

I confirmed this and reported it to the client developers.
