You can also try a different format. If you've been playing IMP, try MP (there are generally more of these). And if you've been playing basic robot games, try advanced robots. Yes, you have to pay for them, but they're relatively cheap and as a bonus you don't have to see ads for a week.
And no, there's no conspiracy to limit the basic games to force people to pay for advanced games.

If this isn't a way of forcing people to pay for the challenges, then why does it work if you select "Advanced robots" ?
A little strange the same "Challenge a star" always works if you pay but not if you don't....

It likely works if you change something else about the format too... like a different number of boards, or a different scoring type.
