Hi there
I don't know about others but I like to compare myself against the whole field during any form of competition
Not much use being Number one of the bottom third
Do people have no aspiration in this world

I am not sure I understand what you say I believe we are trained to be competitive and have some inspiration to be first
i began to play in tournament in the 80's in tournament and some special comptition like philip moris
i think i had the honor to play with Ziad in paris
it was a pleasur to double oponet and let defeat them
to make a sych csll on the TD w/o being punished and geting a top result

Its just during some of the tourneys, the rank displayed is the position in the strata or "rank" you are in A, B or C
I would just prefer to see my position in the A rank, not the B or C
Sometimes number 1 in B or C is a good position. Other times its half way down

The rank that's displayed while the tournament is in progress is within your section, but I think it's overall rank, not stratum.
Ranks are calculated at the end of the round, and different sections can change rounds at different times, so it doesn't make sense to calculate across sections until the end.

recent case in point
1st in C strata in my section
actually 10th out of 15
but I earned a fraction of some kind of point for it
It kind of also gets confusing the rank/strata thing because "rank" is used in different ways
I feel guilty stealing points from C-rankers, even B-rankers

What does this have to do with this discussion? This thread is about the running score during the tournament, not the final score and points earned.
In ACBL tournaments, you get either section awards within each stratum you're eligible for, or overall awards if you're in the top 6, whichever is higher.
You're not "stealing" from anyone. If you didn't place high in B, you don't affect the ranks of the B players.
