Shall we resuscitate JEC matches? The last one seems to have been in 2018. What was the result? Helene_t reminds me that we partnered each other in an early JEC match. It was fun. I would like to have another go. In an attempt to overcame BBO inertia and apathy, it might be an idea to appoint a dynamic young team-captain to keep them doggies moving. For example, with BBO approval, I wonder if diana-eva would resume that onerous role? :) If you need something done, ask a busy person! :) In the mean-time, may we establish whether there's enough interest to approach JEC again?

I haven't posted on here since I 'retired', but I still regularly look at the posts, however, I am going to reply to this one, Nigel.

Over the years I have watched many a JEC/BBO Forum match on a Saturday night, obviously willing BBO Forums to cause an upset. I think it happened once in maybe 200 matches. So, my view is, for what it's worth, let sleeping dogs lie. It's not worth the effort.

Playing with a team where both partnerships have regular partnerships might work, but playing with a pick-up partner is a recipe for disaster, even accounting for experience. Moreover, the level of experience and bidding and partnership understanding that the JEC team has greatly outweighs any of us. Especially me as just an advanced player.

I'd rather see a JEC match where he and his team are playing established internationals, and given how many are playing on BBO at the moment, wouldn't it be better to ask some of them if they would be agreeable?

There's perhaps a good reason why the weekly BBO Forum match disappeared off our screens. It's a bit like a TV series that has also disappeared from the channels due to poor ratings.

HUGE NUMBERS of kibitzers showed up for those SAT afternoon (EST) matches. The results, in the couple of years I was "participating", were indeed quite daunting around 100 to 3. I "think" the main problem was JEC preferred to play against partnerships he might see in the future. That left a huge number of forum readers/posters adrift. I not only played against them on numerous occasions but one time actually WITH them - we clobbered the forum hehe - (seeing traitor appear more than once on my chat:)). I found the experiences wonderful and enlightening. I tried running it for a while when I was new to BBO and found many complaints when I chose 1st come 1st served vs the stronger players since I did not know the bbo names. If it is run again I would get someone who knows who the stronger players are to give JEC the best competition.

I hope that you're wrong about JEC matches, FelicityR, but I'm glad that you're keeping in touch. I agree with the points raised by gszses.

More than the number of JEC players? B-)

Just kidding, but in line with current times and the results as reported here.

What is JEC in any case?

Oh no! billions and billions and billions of dollars are likely to be involved.

Can we compete against someone else?

would love to play.
and i would propose to make it some friendlier time
e.g.
11AM NY = 0000 HK = 1600 UK = 2130 India.

and I reckon that those bbo challenge regulars would be good candidate if they are interested ...
all of them would be used to bot partner and could probably handle other bbo challenger regular as partner ...

JEC is the BBO moniker for Jimmy Cayne and his team of international stars.

Thank you. In that case, a tough challenge.
