Semifinals are:

icycookie vs gordontd
broze vs smerriman

As usual, 4x16 challenges. Let's aim for a week for the semifinals, and a week for the final.

zzmiy has been disqualified and will be banned from the next challenge event. After round 2 started, he played no less than 12 16-board IMP challenges against GIB, losing 10, tieing 1, and winning 1; the score reported in this thread (the 11th of the 12 challenges played, date-wise) was the one winning score.

Have sent a PM asking for an explanation, but I can't imagine any that would overturn this decision.

thank you the players and especially organizer. Look forward to the next event.

(could now understand gwnn earlier comments 1on1 challenge are more personal/exciting)

Thanks for organizing smerriman, sorry you had to deal with this unpleasantness.
Good luck to the semi finalists.

GIB passed me out on 13 when we were in a game force :(

It was forcing to 3NT only. Dumb but yea.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Aha. No one on earth plays this way but noted for next time. One more crazy thing I need to worry about.

I know! Got some bad breaks in the slam but missed a trump surrogate play I should have seen. Smerriman takes the last set so good luch in the final. :)

Each of the semifinalists got a BB$5 gift. Well done!

This is message #209 from previous tournament thread. I liked the new policy, even if nobody said it's the new policy :D B-)

However, I didn't manage to find the corresponding post in this thread. Since I was absent for a certain period, maybe I should ask whether it's my blindness, or early abandonment of the policy... <_<

(Not going to wine, the very participation in such luxurious tournament is worth at least BB$100. I'm just a bit curious...)

I think we did that because GIB was in the semis of that event, to subsidize paying for advanced bots.

Oh, I see. Well, the tourney is still a gem and I am going to play every one I can.

It was a combination of sponsoring GIB and well done gift (upgrading GIB in challenge is 25 cents). We'll do it again :)
