Safari and BBO keyboard lockup

Have an interesting situation with BBO and Safari 12.1 After I log out of BBO and return to my home page. I am no longer able to type in the Google search engine window. I need to quit and relaunch Safari to get my keyboard back. I think the problem just started when I upgraded to 12.1. Not a problem with Firefox and BBO.

Any ideas?

Addendum: this only happens when I'm running the old BBO version. When using the new (iPad) version, keyboard works fine after exit. Why not just stick to the new version, you may ask? Because I like the old version, that's why. But that's for another thread.

The new version is the only one we're working on now. Browsers will be dropping Flash support completely next year, there's not much point in us dealing with problems it may have now.

I also can't reproduce this problem on my Mac running High Sierra and Safari 12.1.
