Try for game?

You hold
♠ KQT9x
♥ AKJ
♦ QJx
♣ xx
IMPs, all vul.
Partner (me) opens 3C, first in, passed to you. What's your call, and how close is it?
My preempting style in this position is relatively sound. Usually a 7 card suit, but not a guarantee, probably fairly pure (ie decent offence-defence ratio).

I'll try 3S, and pass 4C if it comes back. I would not be surprised in the least if pass was the winning action though.

I'd just bid 3N and donate 100's like I generally do.

IMP scoring dictates that you should bid game anytime that game has a 35% or more chance of making.
AK seventh, stiff A and partner holding KQJ seventh, AQJ seventh with K onside are possible combinations that partner might hold that make 3 NT a pretty good bet. In addition, partner MIGHT hold a properly positioned ♠ J or the ♥ Q as a possible entry if they hold up in ♣.
So, there seem to be quite a few card combinations where 3 NT will make. You do have pretty good stoppers in all the suits.
You might bid 3 ♠ to try to find a ♠ game, but that may get you past the last makeable game of 3 NT if partner rebids 4 ♣.
It's a guess, but time to be aggressive and bid 3 NT.

I see no reason (well not much) for a 5-3 spade fit to play better than 3nt and 1 trick higher and my partner might raise with 2 of them.
As others point out the imp odds favor a game bid so 3nt it is.

1. Pass. Phantomsac persuades me again.
2. 3N. Rmnka447 might be right.
3. 3♠. But Ggwhiz worries about 4 losers at the 4-level, even if we have a fit.

This is not true when you go down multiple when you go down (as is often the case on a hand like this).

I'm going to do something dangerous and disagree with Justin on a bridge related topic.
Partner has opened 3♣ vulnerable
Folks often strain to lead a major against 3N and I have both majors double stopped
I think that there are enough chances to wriggle home to 9 tricks that I am willing to risk it...
