BBO forum,
When using "DONT" and partner bids a convenient suit asking for your
other suit does partner's bid have to be alerted?
EX:
S W N E
1N 2C P 2D
Does the 2D bid have to be alerted?

Yes in most jurisdictions, since 2♦ doesn't really promise any substantial number of diamonds. Most such "pass or correct" bids are alertable.

You have to alert 2c and explain, if asked : p promises 5+ clubs and 4+ cards in a higher suit.
When advancer bids 2d, overcaller has to alert and explain, if asked : p is ready
to play in d, h and sp.

2d does promise a suit and the other suit would be one of the majors. I think you got DONT confused with Cappelletti.

No. It was not about a 2♦ ovecall, it was about a 2♦ response to a 2♣ overcall. The 2♣ bid showed clubs and another. 2♦ is nonforcing relay, asking for overcaller's second suit. It will usually be based on three or more diamonds but (54)22 with a weak 5-card suit is certainly possible.
I can't believe there are any jurisdictions in which such a bid is not alertable.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Alert, yes. Those explanations only apply if that's his partnership agreement.

To make it esier on partner, i think to promise 5+ in 1rst suit is more efficient.
If you can have 4-5 either way, partner has an insoluble problem, like those people who Michael with 5-4. Their partner having to guess with 3-3 will end up in 4-3 fit instead of 5-3.
Now in balance, you can have 4-4.
