Matchpoints first seat love all

Partner is a pick up and seems like nice guy, but already he's passed your opening bid with 2 aces "i only had the 2 aces partner" and your system is Acol strong 2's etc etc

if you want to bid 4c, guess what, it's gerber :P

Well, that's ok, I don't think anyone would bid 4 with this anyway.
How about 1?

IMO 5 = 10. 1 = 9. 3 = 6. 4 = 5.

5 is awful, in the context of an English club MPs. You'll get a bottom every time they (the field) can't make game, or every time they can make game but don't bid it, or if we can make 3NT.

I don't mean this nastily, but if you have aspirations to be a reasonable player, find better partners before worrying over what to open this hand with. Playing MPs with randoms does nothing for the quality of your game.

1 just seems normal and obvious. I don't know what form the auction will take but I doubt I'm sitting for 3N.

In that case, nice guy or not, I'd have had this hand with a different PD. Opposite this lug, I think I'd just shoot out 5 but opposite a normal PD I start with 1 in 1st seat.

preempts are fun - but to pre on a hand where it takes less than an opener from pard to make slam makes no sense - for you will never ever have a shot at bidding it - open one and while it may be unlikely - at least you have a chance. daffydoc

oh I try, my regular partner is actually a reasonable player, but I just fancied a game after work and took my chances as a single. we actually ended with a 59% session lol, but it's not the strongest of levels.

on the hand I bid 5c, of course with a semi-sane partner I bid 1c but I was really seeing whether it was correct to take a position given the conditions of contest.

thanks

I know the feeling, the summer I really got into bridge I turned up at the club twice a day everyday without a partner. I think I ended playing with over 50 different randoms, I have literally no idea how I put myself through that, even as someone new to the game I could tell they were terrible.

All of them? Must have been a pretty bad club. B-)
