Any reason to bug in? IMPs, red vs white. ACBL Speedball, so decent field but not top notch.

Partner has at most 2♠ and probably less. If they couldn't act not much hope four your side. Partner Axxx♦, A♥ sure but unlikely

There's certainly some chance its our hand but my preference is to act aggressively with shortage, and be conservative with length. Given partner couldn't act over 2S, it feels much more likely that RHO has a strong hand with 2443 shape or similar than a distributional hand with a big spade fit so i'm content to defend.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, the foregoing was a slight underbid, but I assume that bidding would have worked, and that partner was resulting, heavily, in being critical of the obvious pass

No back story to the hand. I passed, and I wondered whether it was close or not. No postmortem
4S was indeed a heavy hand and partner had nothing much. 5D goes down 1, and was bid at a few tables. 4S fails on a very unlucky layout.
