4. Without any other agreement, 4 shows the majors. I'm a bit light in high cards, but having an extra spade may make up for that.

Without special agreements with equal length partner will bid 4 and this can hurt you in a number of ways.
If partner would bid 4 with that, I prefer 4 to 3.
