1S - ( p ) - 2D! - ( p )
3D - ( 4C ) - 4H = ??

2D! was 2/1 GF

Is 4H a cue-bid or another place to play ?

Q-bid.

Opener did not bid 2, instead opting to support .
So, opener does not have 4's.

Cue or kickback if you play it

I assume you meant to say YOU would not have 4 hearts in your 2/1 style. Certainly you weren't imposing that on everyone else.

However, I doubt this will come up very much unless RHO was busy eating refreshments on the previous round.

2nd suit - ostensibly a 5-6.

We are in a forcing pass. If we want to cue we can either bid 4 to initiate cues or pass and bid 4!h over partner's 4!d or x.

That 4C interference bid certainly was annoying.

The bidding/deal was shown to an expert who said a Steve Robinson panel of experts had a concensus that it was a SUIT :

" A similar hand ( was ) in the distrct 6 or mid-atlantic conference magazine (can't remember which). The question was: ' what was the meaning of the first non-jump bid after a gf suit agreement' , and the consensus was it is a slam try with length rather than a cue bid . "

In the current case, it shows a suit. Any hand which would have bid 3H without the silliness of the 4C bid by a player who couldn't act over the opening bid. It is not forcing, IMO.

Without the interference, 3H could have been semi-natural fishing for 3NT (or it could have been a cuebid, its meaning made clear by responder taking a third call over opener's 3NT.)

Now that we are past 3NT anyway, I think cuebid is clear.

I am always amazed how many bids are called choice-of-games on the forum.
