Surely it can't be right to sell out to the opponents' 1NT contract when your partner opens the bidding and you hold an opening hand:

Only "slightly" timid?
IMO need to fix both the lack of doubling, and East bidding 1nt in live forcing auctions. Since the overcall can be fairly light, I think GIB bids 1nt freely as advancer of the overcall far too often over North's free bids and takeout doubles, and that the range should go up considerably. Bidding 1nt on 8 is fine over a North pass, as partner's expected range is higher, but over North's bids East has to be more conservative.
