First of all, people ok with the first pass? 2♦ by an unpassed hand would be a one round force in our methods. Now what?

Yes, p / 4♦ looks right. Partner needs to have a really good hand to be coming in here.

I don't think partner is advertising a mountain. Sufficient would be e.g. ♠ AQxx ♥QJxxxx ♦ Kxx ♣ -

I think the opps would be a lot more excited if they had an 11-fit in clubs (unless they were split 7-4 or something with the 2C bidder having a mammoth hand). And I'd say that 3/10 for bidding your 3-card spade suit is rather generous [I might even award 3S negative points!]
I agree though that partner need not have an amazing hand. Say ♠AJxx ♥KQJxx ♦Kx ♣xx. We have some good cards but we've no fit for partner (most likely), two club losers (most likely) and only 6 HCP. So I'll go with 3D.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I have a good partner, not someone who would X on that dreck after I've failed to: 1) Raise to 2H, or 2) make a negative double.

I would bid 4C suggesting diamonds a doubleton H and maximum values for my pass. 4D would often show stiff H.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Partner's double shows a good hand, 16-17+ -- might be shaded a little if distributional.
First round pass was fine. You are a touch too strong for a WJS in ♦s.
3 ♦ looks right at this point.

First off, I like the title. Second, the hand isn't right for a WJS - I want a 7th diamond, especially at this vulnerability. So passing on the 1st round is what I'd do. Third, from what you've said 4♦ is the best call, but if you are 'out of luck' 3♦ might be a possibility. With anyone I've ever played with though, 3♦ would be the only call.

IMO
- 1st round pass is fine.
- Now, 3♦ = 10, 4♦ = 9, 5♦ = 8, 4♣ = 7, 3♥ = 5, 4♥ = 4, 3♠ = 3.
