Further, you may win in situations where taking out dummies entries just makes it much harder for declarer to take all his chances in order. Maybe he has QC AKQD and AKT spade and a diamond just lets him home trivially by playing diamonds and forcing him to exit in a black suit. If he exits in spades south puts the K on the J and plays ace of spade, if west unblocks south has the ten, for 3s 3d 2h 1c. If he doesnt a low spade scores the the ten and gets and extra club trick too off the endplay. If west returns the spade Q, South wins, and now east has been squeezed on the diamonds already.
Assuming you know the diamonds arent cashing (and you should always know this if your signalling is half way decent) then I am struggling to see any layouts where a diamond back is better than a club back unless south's club discard is a deliberate attempt at deception.
