You hold (at MPs)

You're playing 2/1 with a strong NT opening.

Do you agree with the pass over 1?
What do you lead?

Heart as well. You seem to need an attacking lead and clubs, even if they set up, might not be enough.

J. I'll have to discard a lot on the s and I suspect I'll have to guard the s, so that leaves me with discards whatever I do. I might as well try to setup some tricks in partner's hand.

I would have responded 1.

I'd lead a club. Partner bid them, and I have a far better club holding than I might have. For a heart lead to work, we'll probably need to find a layout like x-KQxx-Axx around the table - that seems a lot to hope for.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

gnasher, the club lead will probably only work if pard has 5 of them. In which case it's better to lead a heart because you're already looking at 5 of those :) :) :)

Also, heart wins on just about any 2-2 or 3-1 residual layout and some 3-2s. You might be right with the club, but I feel like heart is slightly better.

But the hearts are totally barren for entries. Whereas partner has quite good chances of getting in to cash his own (hoped for) suit.

It seems to me that the layouts where the heart suit can cash (before I am forced to discard any!) are much fewer than the layouts where declarer can isolate them.
