IMPs
You play a strong club, so partner won't have an unbalanced 10 count, or a balanced 11 count. Opponents are modern aggressive strong clubbers.

Pass is my choice, too. Even if 2NT is natural (which I suppose it is) it is too much for our hand.

Can live with either pass or 2NT. Double belongs in the same planet as the "I know you mean well" thread in B/I. I'll go 2NT due to the likely 4M game. Would pass if they were vulnerable.

Pass. (My meta-agreements say 2NT is Unusual opposite anything of opening-bid strength like Flannery or Precision 2C.) If 2NT was natural and strong I think this is still just barely a pass, with only 16 and no 2nd or 3rd club trick for the opps to set up for me.

Sorry. Didn't mean to post this in Non-Natural discussions -- Was aiming for Interesting Bridge hands, but my hand-eye coordination sucks :P

Edit: Maybe Lurpoa will randomly upvote this post, since it really isn't relevant to the discussion, and is written in english.

You haven't given the form of scoring.

At imps I overcall a normal 2NT. Why can't we have a vulnerable game on?
At matchpoints pass has more going for it.

well the choices look like pass, X, and 2NT. Probably you have to risk 2NT. X at least gets you to a major suit strain if you belong there. Pass puts the most pressure on partner to reopen assuming LHO passes

Who said we can't have a vulnerable game on. Why would we have to overcall over 2N to find it?

i would be happy to trust the 8 as a second stop, but i don't think the odds favour bidding. there's only only a small chance of game but there's a larger chance of -500 or -800 fron 2ntx. we're happy enough if the bidding dies here or if partner protects.

I don't understand why people think Dbl is an option, this hand doesn't even closely resemble a takeout Dbl (and don't tell me you play penalty Dbl here).

The choice is between pass and 2NT, the fact that partner has already passed makes it a lot less likely we'll have game and a lot more likely we'll run into a penalty Dbl, so I'll pass. Without passed partner I'd bid 2NT.

Pass seems clear. If LHO passes and partner can't re-open, we don't have game. So therefore, by bidding 2NT, I expect to take 8 tricks in NT and have partner pass 2NT and the opponents have to be making 2 for us to have a worthwhile gain.

Pass for me too.

This is the kind of hand where partner doubles and either they make or we get a small penalty instead of making our game. But I haven't learned my lesson yet and am still trying to penalize them.

Pass opposite a passed hand. I would bid 2NT if partner were not passed. A double is totally out of the equation.

pass wtp, over a balancing X i would bid 3C followed by 3NT unconvinced.

Do I need to bid now? No. Pard has very short clubs, so he will certainly bid if he has points.

I'll pass, though 2NT can easily work much better.
