"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

UGGGHH.

I hate collecting 50's on these kind of hands or missing vulnerable games, but any positive move we make could send the auction out of hand. Plus, E-W could have a good heart (or club) fit for all we know.

I suppose I would pass. Not happy about it at all.

Pard is a heavy favorite to be singleton in diamonds, but he didn't overcall or dbl, so he's kind of broke.

It's a near-certainty LHO has a balanced hand with 4 diamonds, so he might be 12-14 or 18-19. In the first case you may or may not have game on; in the later case, you should definitely pass.

I didn't ran a sim, but odds seem to hint at passing.

Five loser hand. Spades is a biddable suit at the one level. Bid one spade and maybe a two diamond bid is in the future.Definitely has defensive potential, but has offensive potential as well. I like to dribble and shot better than all the pushing and shoving. Not a believer of playing defense at the one level.

I would pass. Partner obviously didn't pass with the diamond stack, they may have a better fit and opener extras (or the hand might just be a horrible misfit).

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Pass. Partner with short didn't bid anything, so I guess it's better to try to defeat this instead of pushing them in a better contract.

This seems a really obvious pass to me.

MP PASS (most positve scores keep one from getting a zero and sometimes work out nicely)
IMP cant ignore spade game need as little as xxxx Axxx Q xxxx have to bid 1S too much
risk of missing game with passs

If I pass, partner has S:9xxxx H:xxx D:- C:AQxxx.
4S looks playable.
If I bid 1S, he has S:xx H:A9xxx D:x C:9xxxx.
Even low partial fails.
I'm always lucky, I bid 1S.

10 tricks in spades looks far off with this. +200 doesn't look too bad.

I wouldn't overcall red if my hearts were truly K-"x-x-x-x", but thats just me.

This is why I had such a bad feeling about passing 1 out. What is LHO's lead against 4 going to be? A club away from the K-J? Unlikely. A trump? I'll win the A, force out the A, win the second spade with the K, throw a club on the K and scramble the rest of the hand like a mu'erf'er. If LHO led the K, I could win the A, drive out the A, throw a club on a heart, draw trump and toss the J onto the table for overtricks. I'd probably even win a beer.

We agree here. My requirements for a 1-level overcall are 8 HCP and K-10-x-x-x.

I wasn't and han was. However, we are pretty much 2 of the most aggressive 1 level overcallers in the world so it probably doesn't mean much.
