Hampson gave me some kind of spoiler before I ever started watching with "Jon Snow will be your favorite character" but he mighta just been calling me a bastard

On that note, I thought that Tyrion would be your favorite character.

(and no, I'm not calling you short or smart)
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I now realize that that joke might not work because in the tv-series Tyrion is not nearly as ugly as he is in the books.

On the Keweenaw Peninsula where I live, "F U" has a rather specialized meaning:

F U Shot Glass

I know, right? I can't wait until this guy (video link contains spoilers from the first book/season, specifically the end of episode 9) gets to that part of the series.

You know, I took this and book 1 in stride (I felt they were kind of telegraphed).

I can't say what it's a spoiler for, as that would spoil it, but if you're up-to-date with books you're fine

I think the 'getting it right' ship has sailed for George. Things went moderately pear-shaped with book 4 - not unusual for an author to lose their grip on things in these big series, and can be recovered from. Book 5 though, my God, what a cauldron of shite.

He's tied to the mast with it now so I assume he'll produce a sixth book - I think the series is irrecoverable now though.

I agree that parts of book 5 were the low part of the series and wandered a bit. I'm optimistic that things can be tied up pretty well in that I think we have, finally, turned the corner where things will be more coming together than flying apart. And while I have no doubt we'll meet some new characters, I think we'll have more of our disparate main characters coming together. So I think the series can be wrapped up in another 2 to 3 books.

I read the first book and didn't like it, so went no further. I can imagine that it would work better as a TV series though.

This would never have made it past the CBS censors back in the day...or even night.
