The opponents were beginners, but I'm not sure how my partner should have played the trump suit given the extra information from the bidding and lead. Thanks for the advice.

I find it much better if you just post the hand as a play problem, it is difficult to be objective when you open the link to see the hand and you can then see the opponents hands too.

I want to win T1 in my hand.
I would play a low trump out of my hand and later finesse RHO for whatever of the QT are still missing.

Why did we win T1 on board? If LHO is 3=1=2=7 based on the opening lead we do want to win K♥ to prevent K♥ from being ruffed if LHO has A♠.
Did the play go:
1) A♥
2) ♠ won by RHO's A♠
3) ♥ ruff
4) ♣ to A♣
5) ♠ ducking into LHO's S♠T
6) ♣ to RHO,
7) ♥, ruffed with QS for -1
It seems unlikely that beginners could pull if off though..

Thanks for the suggestion, it's interesting.
What do you play from dummy, the Jack? Won't this always lose three tricks when RHO has AQx (not an unlikely situation)?

Which card are u playing from dummy after LHO plays small ? If u play J and lose to Q u are now losing to Tx on second round, if u play 9 and lose to T, u lose to doubleton Q on left, though he might have jumped his Q on the first round. Playing small from hand will win when preempter has AQTxx, AQTx or AQT.
Preempter seems not to have KQ ♣, not to have stiff ♦
Anyway, I would take the lead in dummy and play small ♠ to my 7. I will repeat finesses later.

Finesse on the first round. It looks slightly better to run the 7 than to play the 5 to the 9 but havent thought t hat part through.

Lead can't be from shortness, that would mean east has passed with QJTxxx(x) of hearts with likely club honor and something in spades too. So the lead is from Hxx or maybe Hxxx. To not prefer a diamond lead, likely holding is Qx(x). So 1327, 2326, 1426 seem to be the likely shapes. I'd try small to J, wins the stiff ten and ace and has the chance he jumps from Hx.
